Quite a lot of people start learning by taking online courses or studying at home on your own time frame. There is no time limit for how long it takes you and there is no age limit, young or old, to become a HAM.

Below are listed just some of the materials and sites that can get you started. You can even download some of the learning material to your phone and practice whenever you have a couple of spare minutes.

Once you can get 85% or better consistently on the practice tests, contact us thru the Web Site Contact page and let us know you are ready to take the test. One of our examiners will contact you to setup an exam date and time, usually an hour before our monthly meeting. The exam surroundings are very low key and done to make you feel comfortable.

What you can do while you are unlicensed ?

Even without a license you are permitted to listen to any amateur radio band , you just can not transmit. There are a few ways to do this with little or no cost. The first way is to just go online to websdr.org. There you can listen to radios from all around the world on every amateur band there is. Its a great way to get familiar with radio.  The second way is to purchase a simple dual band radio. This will allow you to hear local FM traffic only in the area but you can actually listen to the club repeater on it. Simply plug in frequency 145.170 on the keypad and if you are in range of our repeater you can listen in anytime you like. Remember just don’t transmit without a license.
